Sammie Fruge Ortego, born on December 1, 1950, passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at the age of 75.

Sammie enjoyed cooking, baking, and tending to her flowers. In her earlier years, she enjoyed oil painting.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Michael "Mickey" Ortego; three sisters, Barbara (Cecil) LeFleur, Angie Marcantel and fiancé Brian Billodeaux, Linda Stroderd and companion Aaron Stacy; one brother, Jimmy (Debbie) Fruge; and several nieces and nephews. She had a special relationship with her great nephew Easton Stroderd, who held a very special place in her heart.

Sammie is preceded in death by her parents, J.W. "Dub" and Yvonne Fruge.

Sammie will be missed by those who knew and loved her.

Pallbearers honored to serve will be Hayden Thomas, Maurian Harris, Zane Ceaser, Seth Stroderd, Tim Manuel, and Alex Marcantel.

Family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 5, 2026, at the Reed Chapel - Riley Smith and Sons Funeral Home, 315 N. 14th Street, Kinder. Louisiana 70648. Interment to follow at Liberty Cemetery, Elton, Louisiana.
