Obituary

Norman Joshua Ladlee Jr. was born March 14, 1947, and passed away July 12, 2026, at the age of 79.

Music was one of his greatest passions. Whether sitting at the organ, filling a room with melodies, or simply enjoying his favorite songs, music was a language through which he expressed himself and brought happiness to others. His love of building and creating reflected his patient nature and remarkable ability to turn ideas into something lasting with his own hands.

He also had a deep appreciation for great stories and adventure. He could often be found watching beloved classics like Star Wars and Star Trek, enjoying the excitement, imagination, and timeless themes of hope, courage, and discovery that they offered. These favorite films brought him countless hours of enjoyment and became memories he shared with those he loved.

Above all else, his greatest source of pride and happiness was his family. He treasured every moment spent with them, offering his love, guidance, humor, and steady presence. His kindness, generous heart, and quiet strength will be remembered by all who knew him.

He is survived by his children, Norman J. Ladlee III and wife Cindy, and Deborah Ladlee; grandchildren, David Book and wife Susie, Joshua Ladlee, Stacy Lancaster, Cody Book, Justin Simons and wife Sarah, and Zachary Simons and wife Lindsey; great grandchildren, Oliver, Emmett, Orion, Aiden, Isabella, Skylar, Reece, and Amelia; siblings, Timothy Ladlee and Sandy Ladlee; nieces, Sheila "Petie" Ballinger, Tina Hoag, Amanda, and Emily; and nephew, Roger Hoag and Brandon.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Ladlee; daughters, Dora "Dodie" Ladlee and Toni Book; parents, Norman J. Ladlee Sr. and Dora Ladlee; and sister, Sheila Applegit.

Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, July 18, 2026, at New Life Baptist Church 15398 South Tram Road, Splendora, Texas. Bro. Billy Hensarling will be officiating. Interment to follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, Houston, Texas.
