Norman Joseph DeBarge was born on October 12, 1942, in Basile, Louisiana, to John DeBarge and Clamus Pitre DeBarge. He passed away peacefully on September 13, 2026, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, at the age of 83.
Norman was a man of Christian faith and a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He worked as a truck driver and enjoyed hunting, working on tractors, gardening, and tending to his vegetables. A devoted family man, he loved his wife and children and was a proud PawPaw to his grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Thelma Jane DeBarge; his children, Toby (Ramona) DeBarge, Brent (Peggy) DeBarge, Celeste (Richie) Romero, Crystal (Jason) LeJeune, and Cody (Yurani) DeBarge; fifteen grandchildren, Blake, Ashleigh, Tiffany, Mitchell, Anna, Kyle, Courtney, Brittany, Madeline, Mary Ellen, Madison, Haley, Jacey, Liam, and Aliah; thirteen great-grandchildren, with two more on the way; and one great-great-grandchild on the way. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Clamus DeBarge; his siblings, Sylvia (Tommy) Perron and John (Mary) DeBarge Jr.; and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Earl and Nelma Marcantel.
The family extends special thanks to Brighton Bridge Hospice for their kindness and support.
Visitation will be held in the Reed Chapel - Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 315 N. 14th Street, Kinder, Louisiana 70648 on Friday, September 18, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Rosay will be recited at 6:30 p.m., then on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Alan Trouille officiating. Committal service will follow in the Jessie Johnson Cemetery.
