Obituary

Murphy Hollingsworth, Jr., a beloved father, devout man of God, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on January 19, 1936, Murphy lived a life rich in faith, family, and simple pleasures.

Throughout his life, Murphy's unwavering faith served as a guiding light. His devotion to his faith was evident in his daily actions and the kindness he extended to all who knew him. He was a man of strong character, known for his gentle spirit and unwavering integrity. Family was the cornerstone of Murphy's life. He was a fantastic father, deeply loved and respected by his children. His held a particularly close bond with his favorite cousins, Donnie and Judy Donahue.

Beyond his family, Murphy found joy in the simplest things. He had a particular fondness for farm animals, finding peace in their gentle nature. He loved Gumbo and each afternoon, he could be found savoring his favorite coffee. Murphy's life was a testament to the beauty of a life well-lived, filled with faith, family, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys in life. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Laura Hollingsworth; children, Arty Hollingsworth & wife, Cathy, Joan David, Sandra Hardebeck, and Murf Hollingsworth III & wife, Dana; grandchildren, Lezlie, Chris, Marcus, Jenna, Larry "Poke", Robert, Derrick, Katelyn, Brandon, Clint, Hayden, Anna, and Addison; numerous great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; sister, Cynthia Polston.

He is preceded in passing by his parents, Murphy Hollingsworth and Lessie Shuff; son, Kenneth Hollingsworth.

The family will receive friends Saturday, May 31, 2025 from 4:00 p.m., until the time of the memorial service at 5:00 p.m., in the Reed Chapel at Riley Smith & Sons, 315 N 14th Street, Kinder, Louisiana. A reception will immediately follow in the Smith Hall at Riley Smith & Sons.
