Monica
Brown
Aug 15, 1953 — May 24, 2026
Monica Brown, age 72, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2026, in Starks, Louisiana, the town she called home for most of her life.
Born on August 15, 1953, in Gonzales, Louisiana, Monica lived a life centered around faith, family, love, and tradition. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose presence filled every room with warmth, laughter, and strength.
Monica was known for being funny, sharp, smart, and wonderfully competitive. She had a strong will and a determined spirit that carried her through life with grace and resilience. Her faith in God was deeply important to her and guided the way she cared for and loved those around her.
She shared an incredible 55 years with her husband, David "Pete" Brown. Together, they built a life rooted in devotion, family traditions, and unwavering support for one another. Monica and David enjoyed taking trips together, spending time with family, and creating memories with those they loved most. Holidays were especially meaningful to them, and family gatherings were never complete without the special dishes they prepared and brought to the table. Those traditions, and the love behind them, will be deeply missed by everyone fortunate enough to share them.
Monica found joy in the simple and meaningful moments of life. She loved being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and treasured every opportunity to support and encourage them. She enjoyed reading, cheering on the Houston Astros and the LSU Tigers, and was an excellent cook whose meals brought people together.
She was also a gifted quilt-maker who poured love and care into every blanket she created for family members, taking immense pride in her work. In her younger years, Monica enjoyed playing softball, a passion she shared with David and one that brought them many happy memories together over the years.
Above all else, Monica will be remembered for the fierce love she had for her family, the strength she carried through life, and the lasting impact she made on everyone who knew her. Her legacy of faith, love, generosity, and tradition will live on for generations.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Kris Douget and husband Roger, and Andrea Havard and husband Wayne. She was a proud grandmother to Lauryn Young and husband Joshua, Levi Hyatt, Hayden Spoonemore and wife Krista, Macy Abrego, and Canaan Spoonemore. She also leaves behind her cherished great-grandchildren, Emma, Jude, Jackie, Josi, Drew, Andi, Ava, and Alaila.
Monica is also survived by her siblings Brenda Frank and husband Larry, Murray Stevens Jr. and wife Sandy, and Jessica Diez Munez and husband Oscar, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Monica was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, David "Pete" Brown; her parents, Murray Stevens and Elsie Stevens; her brothers, Mark Stevens Jr. and Lamar Stevens; and her sisters, Patrice Perkins and Robyn Ann Breaux.
