Melvin Christopher Gillard, 54, of Kinder, Louisiana, passed away on June 4, 2026, in Jefferson, Louisiana. He was born on December 12, 1971, in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Melvin was a believer in Christ and was confirmed in the Catholic Church. He was a devoted and cherished member of his family who especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Known for his easygoing nature and generous spirit, Melvin never met a stranger. He loved making others laugh, was always willing to lend a helping hand, and had a heart as big as his smile. He was a top-notch mechanic, welder, and farmer truly a jack of all trades who seemed able to fix just about anything. Melvin also had a deep love for music. He could play many instruments, but the guitar was his greatest passion. He graduated from Kinder High School in 1991 and proudly served his country in the United States Navy for three years. Sports were a big part of Melvin's life, especially softball and golf. Fiercely competitive and full of heart, he treasured his teammates, who became like family and loved him dearly.
Melvin is survived by his children, Kellyn Dodd and Austin Gillard; his two grandsons, Lucas and Nathan; his siblings, Theresa, Joe and his wife, Dana, Becky, Sean and wife Ashlyn Gillard, and Patrick Phillips; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fernest Gillard III and Elena Phillips.
