In Loving Memory of Maria Irma Guerrero-Garza
July 3, 1960 - October 18, 2025

Maria "Irma" Guerrero-Garza was born on July 3, 1960, in East Bernard, Texas, to Pedro and Ysidra Guerrero of Rosenberg, Texas. She attended Bowie Elementary and graduated from Lamar High School in 1978, going on to live a life filled with love, compassion, and faith.

Irma never met a stranger; she had a gift for making everyone feel like family. With a caring heart and generous spirit, she touched countless lives throughout her 25 years of service with Lamar Consolidated Independent School District (LCISD). One of her proudest accomplishments was helping start Common Threads, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that children had clothing, shoes, and school supplies so they could attend school with confidence and dignity throughout Fort Bend County.

Irma was a devoted member of The Pentecostals of Rosenberg, located at 2520 Bamore Rd., Rosenberg, TX, where she faithfully lived by and shared the Acts 2:38 message of salvation as commanded by our Lord Jesus Christ to repent of your sins, be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Her love for God shone through every aspect of her life.

She was also a woman of many passions and talents. Irma loved to draw, read, and paint, often finding peace and joy in creativity. Irma was a devoted Sunday school teacher, youth and children's Choir director for many years. She loved playing her guitar, singing songs of worship in the church choir, and spending time outdoors. She also loved to travel, embracing every opportunity to experience God's beauty in the world around her.

She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Pedro and Ysidra Guerrero; her late loving husband, Ismael "Melly" Cortez.

Irma is survived by her loving children, Rebecca Cortez and son Asa Smith; Roland Daniel and his wife, Katie Garza; and Karissa and her husband, Christopher Ripley, along with their sons, Sebastian and Elliot Ripley. She is also survived by her beloved bonus daughters, Laura G. Rosilez and Melissa Garza, and grandchildren, Hayley, Elaina, and Joshua Rosilez.

Irma is further survived by her siblings, Yolanda and her husband, Natividad Vasquez; Pete Jr. and his wife, Siria Guerrero; Rita and her husband, Bradford Sr. Wheat; Ponce Guerrero; Sofia Salazar; and David Guerrero and fiancée, Janyce Viero. She will be fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, as well as by her cherished church family.

Irma loved to sing songs of worship and praise. Even in her final moments, she lifted her voice to Jesus, never wavering in her faith. She left this world the same way she lived with a heart full of love, gratitude, and devotion to God. Her legacy of love, faith, and kindness will forever remain in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

To God Be the Glory!
