Obituary

Leontine B. Lachapelle, a beloved mother, friend, and vibrant spirit, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2025, at the age of 78.  Born on June 5, 1946, Leontine lived a life filled with joy, laughter, and a zest for all things sparkly.

Leontine's culinary skills were legendary, particularly her renowned tripe and sweet potato pies, which were always eagerly anticipated by family and friends.  Beyond her cooking powers, she delighted in baking and tackling crossword puzzles with impressive skill.  Her faith was a constant source of strength and comfort, guiding her through life's journey.  A keen shopper, Leontine had an undeniable affection for anything that glittered, always appreciating the finer things in life.

She cherished time spent with her loved ones, particularly her niece, Rosalyn Simien, and her best friend, Vivian Simon, with whom she shared many adventures, including listening to zydeco and attending trail rides.  These shared experiences brought her immense happiness.

She is survived by her husband, Clarence Lachapelle; children, Jennifer Lachapelle, Merilyn Simmons & husband, Darrell, and Bridget Lavergne & husband, Jerome "Frog"; grandchildren, Courtney Joubert, Kenneth Joubert, Lenzie Simmons, McKenzie Simmons & wife, Megan, Jasmine Simmons & fiancé, Nicholos Victorian, Jordan Simmons, and Darrell Simmons II & wife, Jasmine; great grandchildren, Brenson Istre, A'vealynn Simmons, McKenzie Simmons, Jr., Kali Hollaway, Koze Simmons, and Marli Victorian; siblings, Roy Bushnell & wife, Jean and Jo Ann Simien;  god children, Denise Gobert and Reginald Fontenot; nephew, Anthony Lavan, who cared for her and whom she loved like a son; Nicholas Jackson, she babysat him and she loved like a grandson.

She is preceded in passing by her parents, Elton & Eva Guillory Bushnell; granddaughter, Lacey Simmons; her brothers & sisters.

The family will receive friends Saturday, April 12, 2025, from 8:30 -10:00 a.m., in the Reed Chapel at Riley Smith & Sons, 315 N 14th Street, Kinder, Louisiana. A funeral mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1100 St. Mary, Elton, Louisiana. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery, Kinder, Louisiana. A Repass will be held following the interment in the Smith Hall at Riley Smith & Sons.
