Obituary

Julia "Judy" Anne Wilson Marcantel, 94, of Kinder, Louisiana passes from this life on June 4, 2026, at Brookdale Senior Living in Lake Charles, LA surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 11, 1931, in Oakdale, Louisiana.

Judy was preceded in death by her loving husband of nearly 50 years, David L. Marcantel, Sr.; her late parents, Gradie L. Wilson, Sr. and Inez Edwards Wilson; and her brother, Gradie L. Wilson, Jr.

Left to cherish Judy's memory include her only sister, Oneida Wilson Herrick of Minocqua, WI; her six children, David L. Marcantel, Jr. (Pam) of Baton Rouge, Oneida "Neida Kaye" M. Loup (Peter) of Sulphur, William "Bill" L. Marcantel (Montez) of Kinder, Richard P. Marcantel (Carrie) of Lake Charles, Ramona M. DeBarge (Toby) of Lake Charles, Rachelle M. Odom (Bryan) of Sulphur; fifteen grandchildren, Tanner Marcantel (Chris) of Atlanta, Courtney Bush (Ethan) of Baton Rouge, Jake Loup of Dallas, Blair Loup (Keenan) of Houston, Blake Marcantel (Shaina) of Dry Creek, Kate (Dylan) Philippe of Prairieville, Tiffany Fuselier of Lake Charles, Mitchel Winzor of Lake Charles, Anna Katherine Bertrand (Brandon) of Welsh, Kyle DeBarge (Karly) of Athens, Blake DeBarge of Lake Charles, Ashleigh Ryder (Marcus) of Oberlin, Phillip Boyette (Ashley) of Sulphur, Genna Richard (Wyatt) of Iowa, James Ray Odom of Lake Charles and seventeen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Judy graduated from Oberlin High School in 1950 and began working at the Allen Parish Clerk of Court until she married Dave in June 1951. She then assisted her husband and his family in their dry goods and grocery store in Kinder. In later years, Judy worked as a longtime Tupperware consultant, a job she enjoyed immensely. Although she wasn't involved with a lot of community service through formal organizations, Judy was always ready to lend a hand where needed. She had the innate ability to "mother" so many while taking care of her busy family. She was kind to everyone.

Her greatest joys centered around the family she and Dave created. She often said she had six children so that she'd always have someone to play with. One of her most special attributes was that she made not only her children but also her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and close family friends all feel like each and every one was her favorite. It was truly her superpower. Judy was fortunate to travel the world with her husband and enjoy family trips in the states. Her many talents shone through in her cake decorating, sewing, and flower plantings in her yard work. Her kitchen seemed like a revolving door, cooking three meals a day feeding whoever sat at her table never turning anyone away. Judy loved playing the piano and teaching her children to play and sing along. She loved playing cards and dominoes with her children as well as attending as many activities as possible for them and her grandchildren. One of Judy's favorite things to do was having coffee with her longtime friends Charlotte, Bobbye and Ida, an almost daily occurrence. She enjoyed attending the Kinder Bible Church where she sang in the choir in earlier years. With heartfelt gratitude, the family acknowledges Regina Seymour, McKenzie Atwell, Cheri Deuren, other nurses and support staff of Harbor Hospice as well as Brookdale nurse Gwen and the care partners who made her life comfortable in the last 9 months.

A celebration of Judy's life will be held at Riley Smith & Sons in Kinder, LA with Bro. Don Barrett officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, from 5-8 PM and will resume on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at 9 AM until service at 11 AM at the funeral home.
