Obituary

Joe Bob Pentecost Jr. passed away peacefully at his home on September 9, 2026.

“

He will be remembered for his infectious smile and laugh, his happy go lucky personality, and the unmistakable sound of his whistle.

Joe loved the outdoors and enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and the occasional trip to the casino. He was always happy to have dessert before dinner. He was a huge football fan, but most of all, he loved cheering on his beloved LSU Tigers.

Joe spent many years serving DeQuincy and the surrounding communities as a dedicated Registered Nurse. He was also a member of Merryville Methodist Church and valued the community and fellowship he found there.

Joe was also a proud Vietnam veteran who honorably served his country in the United States Army. During his military service, he received the National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, one Overseas Service Bar, and Aircraft Crewman wings. He was also a founding member of Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 215 in Westlake. He carried great pride in his service to his country throughout his life.

Joe truly never met a stranger. He had a way of making people feel welcome and comfortable from the moment they met him. He will be remembered for his infectious smile and laugh, his happy go lucky personality, and the unmistakable sound of his whistle. If Joe was nearby, chances were you could hear him before you saw him.

Joe was preceded in death by his father, Joe Bob Pentecost Sr.; his mother, Charlene Chevallier; his sister, Jeanene Ashbrook; and his lifelong friend, Deanna Daw.

He is survived by his loving wife, Charlotte Pentecost; his daughter, Lacie Touchet and her husband, Adam, of Lake Charles; his granddaughter, Emmie Jo; his daughter, Shauna Walker, of Billings, Montana; his sons, Scotty Perkins and his wife, Sondra, of DeQuincy, Eric Perkins and his wife, Ilene, of DeQuincy, and Chad Perkins of DeQuincy; his sister, Pamala Williams, of Claremont, North Carolina; and a host of family and friends who loved him dearly.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Heart of Hospice for the compassionate care and support they provided to Joe and his family during his final days.

Joe will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.

Cremation was entrusted to Riley Smith and Sons Funeral Home.
