James "Jimmy" Andrew
Schirmer
Jul 28, 1942 — Sep 19, 2026
Vinton, Louisiana
James Andrew "Jimmy" Schirmer, 84, of Vinton, Louisiana, passed away on September 19, 2026, in Sulphur, Louisiana. He was born on July 28, 1942, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to James and Margaret Schirmer.
Jimmy grew up in northern Cincinnati and graduated from Deer Park High School in Deer Park, Ohio. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1964. He went on to own and operate a cleaning service in South Florida for 28 years before moving to Vinton, where he spent the final 13 years of his life.
Jimmy cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He treasured every visit, every conversation, and all the special moments they shared. His family brought him immense joy, and the memories they made together will remain a lasting part of their hearts.
In his later years, Jimmy's world centered around the Vinton Senior Center, where he found a true second family. He spoke often and fondly of his friends there. Will Rogers famously said, "I never met a man I didn't like" - Jimmy could have said the same. He spoke well of everyone, and if he ever met someone he didn't care for, he kept it to himself. He loved people, he loved life, and he had a gift for finding humor in almost anything.
Jimmy is survived by his son, Wesley Schirmer and wife Risa; grandchildren, Faith Snyder (Joseph), Cheyann Fontenot (Tadyn), and Kenneth Schirmer; great grandchildren, Alissa Snyder and Ellie Fontenot; and nieces, Kelley Fitzgerald and Dionja Dyer.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Margaret Schirmer; his son, Wendell; and his sister, Marcy.
The family is especially grateful to the caregivers at Holly Hill Rehab for their compassionate care, and to Jimmy's friends at the Vinton Senior Center for their years of friendship, support, and well wishes.
Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Crossroads Baptist Church, Vinton, Louisiana. Pastor Rob Tibbitts will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Vinton Senior Center.
