James Hayes, Jr. was born July 25, 1951, and passed away April 12, 2026, at the age of 74.

James proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, where he traveled and gathered many stories he would later share with his family. Following his military service, he continued a career with the United States Postal Service from which he later retired.

James was known for his constant smile and the joy he found in simply being around those he loved. James enjoyed spending time with his family, especially during gatherings where good food was always appreciated. He never failed to let everyone know of his appreciation. He had a love for science fiction, Disney movies, and fantasy worlds, often getting lost in stories of dragons and faraway places. Though he could be a bit stubborn at times and was more reserved outside of his family, those that were closest to him knew his warmth, humor, and his steady presence.

He will be remembered for his smile, his stories, and the love he shared so easily with his family.

He is survived by his mother, Dell Francois (Jay); sisters, Carolyn Williams (Gary), and Brenda Hayes; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and loved ones.

He is preceded in death by his father, James M. Hayes Sr.; and his sisters, Patricia Pontheaux and Donna Hayes.

Family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 17, 2026, at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. 4th Street, DeQuincy, Louisiana. Bro. Mike Streams will be officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, Leesville, Louisiana.
