Obituary

“

Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy and she was happiest when her house was full of people she loved.

Helen "Hedgie" Beckwith Hyatt was born October 1, 1944, to Barney and Lizzie Jane Kingrey Beckwith, and she passed away on October 2, 2026, at the age of 82.

Hedgie worked several jobs throughout the years in DeQuincy; including The Sewing Factory and Cooley's Home Furnishings. Eventually, she decided to become a stay-at-home mom.

If you knew Hedgie, you knew how much her family meant to her. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy and she was happiest when her house was full of people she loved. Her door was always open, and it was not unusual to find family and friends sitting around visiting or gathered on the front porch. You did not need a special invitation to stop by; her door was always open.

Hedgie was a woman who never left you wondering what she was thinking. She did not mince words. You did not have to guess how she felt about a person, a situation, or much of anything else. That same honesty was also part of the way she loved. If Hedgie loved you; you knew that too.

In the years that followed her husband's retirement, she especially enjoyed the days the two of them were able to spend together. They did not have to be doing anything special. Just being together was enough.

She is survived by her husband, James " Boom" Hyatt ; her son, Pete Hyatt and wife Toky; and her daughter, Barbara Royer and husband Byrd; her three grandchildren, Brandi Vander and husband Travis, Clay Hyatt and girlfriend Shaelyn Clark, and Corey Royer and wife Rachel; her great grandchildren, Patrick Hyatt, Erice McDonald, Gracelynn Clark, Carrie Jarrell, Cailea Jarrell, Cayson Royer, Castynn Royer, Langston Brister, and Stetson Royer; her brother, Joe Beckwith and wife Terri; her sisters, Velma Frazier, Arlene Roebuck, and Betty Gary.

In true Hedgie fashion she picked her pallbearers to be all ladies: Wendy Schysm, Norma Doyle, Rachel Royer, Nita Faye Lopez, Glenda K. Sepuldado, Heather McNeely, and Kim Lane. Honorary pallbearers will be: Brandi Vander and Trinity Beckwith.

Hedgie was preceded in passing by her parents, Barney and Lizzie Beckwith; her sisters, Inez Wright, Carolyn Lane, Annie Stains, and Norma Lee Beckwith; her brother, Barney "Barty" Beckwith; and her dear friends, Charlie and Ollie Faye Pickering.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Reagan Royer for going above and beyond in helping with the care giving of Hedgie while she was sick.

The family will receive friends Sunday, October 4, 2026, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m., Hargrove Pentecostal Church. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, October 5, 2026, at Hargrove Pentecostal Church, 1079 Fields Highway, DeQuincy, Louisiana. Pastor Anthony Kennon, Rev. David Kennon, and Rev. Mike Streams will be officiating. Interment will follow at Shady Oaks Cemetery, DeQuincy, Louisiana.
