Obituary

F.B. Whitman was born October 3, 1941, and passed away from this life on September 19, 2025, at his home.

F.B. was an accomplished individual with a diverse range of interests and experiences. After attending SOWELA Technical Community College to study Business, he worked as an Industrial Fabrication Technician, showcasing his skills in craftmanship and technical work. He also contributed his time and effort to the Calcasieu Parish School Board, reflecting his commitment to the community.

A passionate outdoorsman, F.B. was an avid fisherman who loved spending his leisure time exploring rivers, creeks, and lakes. Toledo Bend held a special place in his heart, where he often fished with his father and uncles, creating cherished memories. His love for sports, especially LSU baseball, was unwavering; he was a dedicated fan who never missed a game, and his collection of sports memorabilia and fishing mounts were among his most treasured possessions.

F.B.'s athletic journey included playing two years of baseball in the American Legion League and two years in the Sheriff's League as a utility player. His dedication to nurturing young talent was evident in his over 37 years of coaching youth baseball in the DeQuincy Dixie Youth League, serving as both head coach and pitching coach. One of his most cherished memories was taking his 15- and 16-year-old boys to compete in the Dixie Youth National Tournament, a testament to his passion for the sport and mentorship.

Overall, F.B. was a man who valued family, community, sports, and the outdoors, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew him.

He is survived by his daughter, LaDusta Lee Flower; stepson, Russel Damerell; grandson, Michael Perkins; granddaughters, Heather Streams, and Kimberly Elliott and husband John; great grandchildren, Bryce, Kannon, Audi, Kooper, Rhetton, Lotty, and Karalee; along with several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, Fren Bennett Whitman; mother, Ola Whitman; sisters, Mary Ann Cooley and Betty Bunch; and brothers-in-law, Sheldon Cooley and Jean Bunch.

Family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 26, 2025, at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W, 4th Street, DeQuincy, Louisiana. Rev. Mike Streams will be officiating.
