Obituary

Elsa Mandado Billeaudeau, born on March 4, 1931, in the vibrant city of Havana, Cuba, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2025, in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Elsa's life was a tapestry woven with love, resilience, and an undeniable zest for life that touched the hearts of all who knew her.

When Elsa was just 16, her life's journey took her from the sun-kissed shores of Cuba to the bustling streets of New York City where she learned to speak English and began her working career initially at Elizabeth Arden on Park Avenue. After several years in the big city, Elsa moved to join her sister in Kenner, Louisiana. She soon joined the staff at the Roosevelt Hotel as a photographer in the opulent Blue Room where she met the love of her life and future husband, Frank Billeaudeau.

Elsa and Frank then attended and became a proud alumna of the University of Lafayette in Lafayette, Louisiana. The couple then moved back to Kenner, where in 1971, Elsa embarked on a successful career as a real estate agent and quickly became a distinguished member of the Realtor's Million Dollar Club. Her entrepreneurial spirit also led her to run several businesses in the hospitality industry, where she thrived in creating welcoming environments that fostered connection and joy.

The joyous couple lived in Kenner until 2006 before moving to Lake Charles where Elsa embraced new friendships as a member of the New Comers Club and the International Club, showcasing her innate ability to draw people in with her warm personality and infectious laughter.
Elsa and Frank shared a joyous passion for dancing and music, often hosting gatherings that filled their home with laughter and love. Elsa was a true social butterfly, thriving in the company of others and making lifelong friends wherever she went.

Elsa was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank Billeaudeau Jr. and her cherished sisters: Anna Mandado Vondenstein, Irma Mandado Poin, Olga Mandado Herrera, and Raquel Mandado Willem, yet her legacy continues through her devoted daughter, Karen Billeaudeau Weinmann (Robert), her grandchildren Brian Hanchey (Ruth), Scott Hanchey (Laura), and Kristen Hanchey, and her great-grandchildren, Peyton, Nora, and Lola Hanchey.

Elsa's life was a celebration of family, friendship, and the joy of connection. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit will continue to shine brightly, reminding us of the importance of love, laughter, and the bonds that tie us together.
May she rest in peace, surrounded by the love of her family and the memories of a life well-lived.
