Obituary

Earl James McManus (91) was born March 4, 1934, and passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025, at home in The Woodlands, Texas.

Earl, a long-time resident of Lake Charles and Moss Bluff leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, and love. A proud veteran of the United States Navy, he served his country honorably aboard the aircraft carrier USS Hornet.

In his younger days, Earl was an avid weightlifter, football referee at both the high school and college levels and served the local community and church. Known for his craftsmanship and resourcefulness, he could fix or make just about anything.

Family meals and gatherings were always marked by holding hands in a large group and "PaPa" bowing to say the blessing where he would call out each family member's name, asking for God's blessings and protection.

His continuous smile and genuine love for others never went unnoticed. He worked for and retired from National Cash Register (NCR) and PPG. In his later years, Earl found joy in simple pleasures, watching westerns, listening to gospel music, sneaking sweet treats when he could, and spending time with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He delighted in worship, visiting friends, working on puzzles and word searches, and, of course, doing whatever "Momma" told him to do.
Earl, affectionately known as "PaPa" and "Pops" leaves behind a family who adored him, including his wife of 64 years and a faith that sustained him. He was an example through his walk with the Lord. Though we mourn his passing, we rejoice in the promise of reunion, knowing with certainty that he rests securely in the salvation he cherished through his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Myrtle Ann Cooper McManus; his children, Stewart Jay McManus and wife Cyndie, daughter Paula Kay Cleveland and husband Shannon; grandchildren, Natalie Robertson and husband Brian, Kristen Watkins and husband Tim Jr., Cameron McManus and wife Maradi, Claire Hassell and husband Josh, and Jonathon McManus and wife Sydney; 9 great grandchildren; brother, Kenneth McManus and wife Dona; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmitt and Mary McManus, two sisters Elenor Johnson and Edwina Thomas, oldest son Jimmy McManus, and one grandson, Kortland McManus.

Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at First Church Moss Bluff. Visitation will begin at 4:00 PM, followed by a Service at 5:00 PM. A family graveside service with military honors will follow at Hyatt Cemetery in Fields, Louisiana.
