Donald D. Davis was born January 3, 1943, and passed away July 27, 2025, at the age of 82, in DeRidder, Louisiana. Affectionately known as "Don" or "Paw Paw Don", he passed peacefully after a long battle with Parkinson's.
Don lived a remarkable life. He was a college basketball player, a war veteran, and worked many years as a civil servant, beginning his career in Washington State, moving to Bamberg, Germany, and finally ending his career at Ft. Polk, Louisiana. Don coached many Optimist teams for youth in soccer and baseball. He was an avid golfer, known well in that respected community. He was a charter member of the OFC Club. Paw Paw Don will be truly missed by everyone who had the honor of knowing Don.
He is survived by his two sons, Dean Davis and Chad Davis; grandchildren, Kailea, Trinity, Ava, Breanna, and Kade Davis; 6 great grandchildren; Jerry Davis and wife Donna, Sid Davis, Randy Davis; sisters, Karen Caress, Kim Nesius, Paula Wilson, and Katie Terry; sister in-law, Chuckie Davis; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his sons, Jacob Davis and Adam Davis; parents, Harris and Gladys Davis; stepmother, Betty Davis; brothers, Gary, Geno, John, Mike, Topper; sisters, Denna, Lila Harriet, Karla, Kerri; brother in-laws, Earl, Bob, Butch, Tony, Jimmy; sister in-law, Jenifer, Myrna, Becky, and Carol.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Danielle Rodriguez Dickson, she provided excellent care to Don, who viewed her like a daughter.
Family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at Grace Church, 1021 West First St., DeRidder, Louisiana. Rev. George Lee Glass will be officiating. Interment will follow at the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery.
