Obituary

Christine Marie Marcus, born April 5th, 1930, in Florien, Louisiana, passed away on March 7th, 2026, in Baytown, Texas, at the age of 95. She was the beloved daughter of Travis Thomas Lewing and Nettie Erwin Lewing.

Sis. Marcus was more than a pastor's wife. She was a minister in her own right - a woman whose voice carried not only melody, but Ministry. She led choirs that lifted hearts from Jerusalem, to Zimbabwe, Madagascar, Mauritius, and Ethiopia to Canada and many states in America. Her gift wasn't just in music, but in leading saints in spiritual worshipping. Every note in every song in every choir she directed came from a heart rooted in grace. Many of her favorite songs are found in the Gaither's Homecoming Singing to Brooklyn Tabernacle to Doris Akers Sky Pilot Choirs and many singers in The United Pentecostal Church. It was her own life that became the truest hymn. One of faith, strength, devotion and inspirational worship.

Married to a pastor who served faithfully for sixty years, Sis. Marcus' life was one of partnership and purpose. Wherever her husband went, she carried the warmth of music, the patience of love, and the discipline of faith. Together, they built more than churches, they built people.

As she grew older, Sis. Marcus became both teacher and student in life's greatest lesson: "The Sacred Exchange of Care." The child who once held her hand now held hers. This - she would say, "The Eternal Circle of Life." Caring for a loved one is both a privilege and a test of grace. There is joy in seeing a smile of gratitude, but also a quiet ache in watching the decline that time brings. True caregiving, she believed, meant more than attending to needs. It meant seeing the person still inside; The Dreamer, The Believer, the one who once sang from the pulpit with power.

In her final years. Sis. Marcus showed her family how to live and how to let go. She taught them that strength is not always loud. Sometimes it's the steady whisper that says, "I'm still here." She believed that even when bodies grow weak, love remains strong enough to carry us all.

Her son, Pastor Roger Marcus, often says, "Caregiving is one of the most sacred forms of ministry". A final act of love that mirrors the way God cares for us. Sis. Marcus embodied that truth. She gave, she served, she sang, and when her voice grew quiet, her spirit kept singing through those who loved her.

She is survived by her children: Roger Marcus, Judy Cienfuegos and husband Freddie, and Teresa McFarlin; her grandchildren: Phillip, Annabeth, Tania, Joy, Karen, Andy, Marcus, Haleigh, and Gentry; her twenty-two great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

She is preceded in passing by her loving husband, Reverend L.S. Marcus; her parents; daughter, Wanda Marcus; granddaughter, Trisha; brothers, Huey, Wilson, and Wayne Lewing.

Someone once said, "In the end, it isn't the years in your life that count; it's the life in your years." Sis. Marcus filled her years with faith, family, and music that reached far beyond the walls of any church. Her life was her greatest song. It will keep playing, softly and surely in the hearts she touched forever.

Pallbearers honored to serve will be Freddie Cienfuegos, Barry O'Connor, Gentry O'Connor, Chance Bradley, Keith Lewing, and John Lewing. Honorary to serve will be Hayden Brown, Ethan Argersinger, Marcus O'Connor, and Andy McFarlin.
