Obituary

Betty Jean Morehead Eaglin, born April 24th, 1942, to Alsay and Eva Botley Morehead, passed away on June 13th, 2026, in Lake Charles, LA, at the age of 84.

She was a believer in Christ and a faithful member of Starlight Baptist Church. She was a member of the choir, an usher, and served the church as much as she could before relocating to Lake Charles, LA in 2010. Betty was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved spending time with her family, and her home was an open door to family and friends. She loved welcoming everyone with a beautiful smile, laughter and conversation. In her free time, she enjoyed listening to gospel music and spiritual speakers, reading her Bible, and watching Western movies.

Betty graduated high school with aspirations of becoming a nurse. She began and never continued. Instead, she choose to be a proud stay-at-home wife and mother raising her children through school-age before beginning her career. Betty was a well-known caterer and cook. She spent 20 years working in the Allen Parish Kinder School System as a Cafterea Technician. She was loved by so many and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her children, Sharon James and husband Kevin; Donna Ames and husband Jerry; Joseph Wilton "Lil Bro" Eaglin; Pamela "Chee-Chee" Hebert; Kaye Lynn Cabbagestalk and husband Robert; and Clint Eaglin and ex-wife, Michelle Burton; her grandchildren, Dena James, Kevin James II and wife Stephanie, Make'da James, LaDonna Carroll, Delisa Carroll, Dr. Matthew Carroll, Amber Hebert, Tevin Cabbagestalk, Zuri Cabbagestalk, Zyndzi Cabbagestalk, Zaki Cabbagestalk, Auri Cabbagestalk, and Desiree Eaglin; her great-grandchildren, Heavyn, Kevin III "Tre", Trinity, Kaleigh, Kaiden, Mekel, Kingston, Gabrielle, Ryleigh, Amari, Isaiah, Zah'iri, Josiah, Imanni, Diamond, Adam, Brendon, Emmeri, Kyri, Jakari, and Xakahi; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilton Eaglin Sr.; her parents, Alsay and Eva Botley Morehead; her two sons-in-law, Raymond Hebert and Nelson Carroll; and eight siblings, Uri, Rubin, Uzel, Maude, LJ, Ernest, Allen, and Percy.
